Why Locals Love Granny Annie's Bar & Kitchen

Granny Annie’s Bar & Kitchen, nestled at 425 Main St in vibrant New York City, is a charming culinary haven that masterfully brings traditional Irish fare with a modern twist to the heart of Manhattan. This cozy restaurant effortlessly combines the warmth of an inviting neighborhood pub with the quality and care of a fine dining experience, creating an atmosphere that feels like a home away from home.

The menu is a delightful celebration of Irish-inspired comfort food, bursting with bold flavors and reminiscent aromas that instantly evoke a sense of warmth and nostalgia. Start your meal with their famed French Onion Soup—rich, deeply savory broth brimming with caramelized onions and topped with a perfectly melted cheesy crust that customers rave about for its generous, authentic layers. For something heartier, the Traditional Shepherd’s Pie delivers a symphony of seasoned ground beef, fresh vegetables, and a lavish mashed potato crown that comforts you with every forkful. Alternatively, indulge in the Irish Chicken Curry, a homemade spicy curry served over fluffy basmati rice that beautifully balances heat and earthiness.

Granny Annie’s also excels at lighter, shareable dishes like the Irish Curry Cheese Fries, where golden hand-cut fries are smothered in a luscious blend of Jack and cheddar cheeses, crowned with top-notch Irish curry sauce. And for brunch enthusiasts, the weekend offerings such as the Irish Eggs Benedict or the classic Irish Breakfast Brunch are savory morning indulgences served with style and generous portions.

Beyond the plate, the ambiance radiates genuine hospitality. Guests consistently praise the friendly, attentive staff and the lively yet comfortable vibe. Whether you’re gathered in a small group or celebrating a larger party, Granny Annie’s adapts effortlessly, creating an inviting scene enhanced by eclectic live music on Friday nights and multiple big-screen TVs showing your favorite sports. The bar, featuring expertly poured pints of Guinness and warm bartenders like Carlos who make you feel like a regular from the moment you sit down, truly rounds out the authentic Irish pub experience.

From the first sip of a perfectly poured pint to the last bite of the velvety, piping-hot soups and pies, Granny Annie’s offers a memorable dining journey—one that warms both the palate and the soul. If you're craving comforting, thoughtfully-prepared Irish classics paired with a welcoming atmosphere and genuine New York charm, Granny Annie’s Bar & Kitchen is a must-visit destination that you’ll want to return to time and again.

If you’re looking for a warm and welcoming bar, this is it. Comfort food was great! Can accommodate many different size groups. Staff was super friendly and the food comes out fast. Live music on Friday night was really fun and eclectic.

I'm going to make this one quick, the food was very good but the service, well once the order was placed our waiter was nowhere to be found and this was the case for all the tables around us. All that aside, when it was time to pay a girl kept coming over and over and over every few minutes wanting us to pay even though I told her that I have not looked at the bill yet and would need some time to finish my drink and then I'll take a look at it.

Served three perfect pints of Guinness! Carlos the bartender, makes everyone feel at home and instantly you are his new best friend! Really enjoyed a crock of French onion soup! Watched both football and basketball on TV and the Christmas music was extremely tolerable. Comfortable bar, excellent service, great happy hour, and steps to the tram and Subway! See you there!

Grannie’s Annie’s absolutely nailed it. We had both the French onion soup and the tomato soup, and they were the kind of comfort food you immediately want to defend in an argument. The French onion was rich, deeply savory, and properly cheesy, not that sad skimpy layer you sometimes get. The tomato soup was smooth, balanced, and clearly made with care, not dumped out of a can and reheated. Perfect alongside a grilled cheese that was golden, crispy, and unapologetically indulgent. Warm, cozy vibe. Food that actually delivers. This is the kind of place you come back to when you want something simple done right. No notes. Just show up hungry.

We were visiting the NYC area and ended up here. This was our favorite restaurant. Quiet, cozy, and delicious food. Best tomato soup I've had in a long time. No wait, good service. Very clean.

Oh boy I'm not sure if Granny Annie is still alive, but if I met her I would of given her a huge hug and thank you. Our last day and meal in New York , and arrived on the gorgeous Roosevelt Island, hungry , thirsty and with our suitcases desperate to relax , and made the the most perfect decision to stop of at Granny Annie's. A gorgeous place , really lovely friendly staff and with birds tweeting around us opted to sit out side on a glorious day . Lovely food choices, and the drinks were a joy also. Food was super delicious and plenty of it and my beer was just what the doctor ordered. I couldn't thank the staff enough for making our final meal so perfect and if we go back it's 100% on our list to return to . Thank you all so much .

They opened at 10:30 on Saturday morning and we were the 1st in the door! It was a quiet morning due to other activities in the city, so we had the bar to ourselves for a little while. The atmosphere is perfect and nice. They were all decked out for Halloween and the service was top notch h! We will be back!
